Michael D. Lentini, President
Michael D. Lentini is a highly experienced, successful, and uniquely skilled investigation management professional. His career is solidly grounded on a strong foundation of expertise in conducting intensive internal investigations involving fraud and corruption within a diversified range of companies on a worldwide scale.
Mr. Lentini’s professional history started with the New York City Police Department where he advanced to Detective 2nd grade and covered extensively complex and multifaceted financial crimes within banks, government agencies, corporations, securities dealers, and organized crime syndicates. His work included leading extremely sensitive, high-profile investigations involving nationally recognized figures. Two of his many investigations were featured on the Investigation Discovery Channel.
Following his retirement from the NYPD in 2001, Mr. Lentini was hired as a Lead Investigator for the Special Audit Investigations Group of the Philip Morris/Altria Corporation. Within the five years of employment at this Fortune 500 company Mr. Lentini orchestrated an international team of internal investigators/auditors and recovered significant revenues for the organization by uncovering extensive fraud committed by company personnel, vendors, and outside contractors worldwide. His responsibilities included conducting confidential internal investigations of employee malfeasance and reporting recommendations to upper management to prevent further incidents.
As of 2006, Michael Lentini became a Managing Director of Operations for an international investigations company. Within one year he drove the overall growth and profitability of this multimillion-dollar, privately held company by establishing a viable operational framework. He elevated morale and fostered greater accountability among the 8-person staff as well as a large team of international contractors by implementing clear chains of supervisory command. Mr. Lentini won the support of long-time employees, initially resistant to operational changes, by building collaborative relationships with them.
From 2007-2010, Mr. Lentini served the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as a Senior Investigator in the Money Laundering and Tax Crime Unit. Here he was an instrumental force in spearheading investigations that obtained over a million dollars in lost city and state tax revenues.
In 2010, Michael Lentini formed MDL Consultants LLC, a distinguished investigative services company with a team of highly qualified investigation, accounting, and Fortune 500 audit professionals. His firm serves as an independent internal investigation contractor and has successfully recovered vast revenues for companies. Mr. Lentini and an expert staff of professionals identified complex fraudulent patterns and schemes of individuals attempting to bilk the BP Oil spill fund with false claims. This resulted in saving millions of dollars for the company’s fund. A more recent achievement of MDL Consultants was their work for an international money transfer company. This investigation involved reviewing the business practices of one of the company’s money transfer affiliates operating out of Rome, Italy. Mr. Lentini was able to uncover practices not in compliance with International Money Laundering requirements. Additionally, he and his staff identified three fraudulent business vendors conspiring with the company’s European director, leading to the director’s dismissal and saving the client €3 million (Euros) monthly. Of further note, MDL Consultants provided training and support for the company’s employees on anti-money laundering compliance. In 2015, MDL Consultants was tasked by the same company to review its practices in Madrid, Spain regarding allegations of money laundering by Chinese immigrants. Mr. Lentini and his team were able to identify a lack of oversight from the compliance department which was ill equipped to handle the demands from headquarters to open the profitable but risky Chinese corridor. Additionally, it was discovered that senior executives in compliance deliberately misled federal investigators looking into the matter leading to the resignation and replacement of the compliance leadership.
In 2015, MDL Consultants was tasked with the due diligence and vetting of minority sub-contractors for a major construction company. The project entails assuring that each company is in compliance with the city and state DMWBE regulations. More recently, Mr. Lentini has been hired by the worlds largest food provider to locate and secure assets for the company on a national basis. The failure to secure these particular assets, would put the company at a major financial disadvantage in the industry.
Mr. Lentini’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Certification as a Fraud Examiner, extensive training from the NYPD, and ongoing professional development courses to keep pace with the latest concepts and methodologies in fraud investigations.
